DRESS CODE

Here at The Dance Academy, we always tell our students, "How you dress is how you will perform." Correct dress in the dance class is important for good mobility, correct mentality, and for the teachers to give proper feedback to each student.  This is why our studio has a strict dress code that all students must follow.

Ballet: Pink ballet tights, class leotard, ballet slippers (pink leather or canvas), ballet skirt (optional), leg warmers(optional). Hair is to be pulled up neatly in a bun. NO PONYTAILS ACCEPTED. Ballet is the most classic form of dance and so we ask our dancers to dress in a way that gives this classic art form the respect it deserves.

Jazz: Tan, black or pink tights, leotard of choice (bra tops are accepted), jazz pants/ shorts, jazz shoes (no laces and no jazz sneakers). Hair is to be pulled up neatly into a bun (preferred) or ponytail.

Tap: Tan, black or pink ballet tights, leotard of choice (bra tops are accepted), jazz pants/ shorts, tap shoes (for tap), and clogging shoes (for clogging). Hair is to be pulled up neatly into a bun (preferred) or ponytail.

Modern/Contemporary: Tan, black or pink tights (convertible), class leotard, jazz pants/ shorts, foot undez or bare feet. Hair is to be pulled up neatly into a bun (preferred) or ponytail.

Tumbling: Tan, black or pink tights (convertible), or no tights (only for tumbling), bare feet, dance shorts. A low bun or ponytail.  The high buns or ponytails often hurt the students heads when they roll on them.

Hip-Hop: Leotard or bra top of choice, hip-hop pants (loose/baggy sweat pants, ONLY for hip-hop), hip-hop sneakers. Hair is to be neatly pulled up into a ponytail.

*The class leotard will be available for purchase at the beginning of the year.  During this time, we give students who are in need of new dance shoes a chance to order them.  We order all classes a leotard of the same style and color.  We like the children to look uniform and this is a great way for new dancers to have the chance to buy dance clothes.  The studio asks that the children wear their class leotard each week.

*Costumes will be required for dance performances and will be purchased in December for the upcoming recital.  The costumes chosen are age appropriate and selected to enhance the choreography and storyline of the dance.  If students have multiple costumes,  please feel free to pay ahead so the costume fee isn't a financial burden. The average costume fee is approximately $55-80 per costume.
